Will this slow down or affect my Internet access? No.
Do I have to use my computer to make calls? No. We install a device for you that lets you use your existing phones in your home. The service has nothing to do with your computer.
Do I have to leave my computer turned on? No. Your high speed internet is normally on all the time even if your computer is not. Your BroadBand phone service uses the high speed internet; not your computer.
Do the people I am calling have to have the Internet, or Broadband phone service? Of course not. You can call anyone, anywhere in the world the same as you would with traditional phone service. You can call cell phones, regular phones, other

If my Internet goes out because of a storm or because I forgot to pay my internet bill, will I lose my BroadBand phone service? Yes you will. Broadband phone service needs internet.
Will I be able to use the phones throughout my house? Yes you can and that’s the best part about PittsburghVoice. With PittsburghVoice’s free Total Home Hook Up, all the phones in your house will work! The other company’s VoIP services do not operate like that.
Will I be able to dial 911? Yes. But, keep in mind if your Internet goes out you won’t be able to call anywhere including 911. We recommend you have a cell phone or if its really important (like someone on a respirator at home) then have a landline as a backup.
Can I still call Directory Assistance? Sure.
Will I get a few Free Directory Assistance calls each month? No. We realize that some traditional phone plans have some free directory assistance calls. With PittsburghVoice’s BroadBand phone service our customers save on average about thirty bucks a month. If you call directory assistance, those calls will be chargeable. Please consider that as the trade off for the big savings you’ll get with the plan.
Does it work the same way as the regular phone? It works pretty much the same way. You have dial tone on all your phones and you can place and receive calls. However, with PittsburghVoice’s BroadBand phone service you would have many more features than with traditional phone service. Please check out our Features section to see how those work.
Will I have my same phone number? In almost all cases; Yes. If we could not reuse your number we would tell you before installing service.
How is the voice quality? Real Good. National studies have said that VoIP in general is being “better than a cell phone but not quite as good as a landline phone.” However, our trial of 250 subscribers in PittsburghVoice’s market yielded that in many cases the quality was reported by our customers as being even better than traditional phone service!
Can I get a refund if I don’t like it? Yes. Our satisfaction rate is very high and our technicians can solve most problems. Should you decide it’s not for you anyway, we ask that you request your refund within the first month in order to obtain credit for the first month of service. Of course you can cancel service after the thirty days. It’s just; in order to implement the money back guarantee we ask that you do it in the first month.
Is there a commitment?
Yes. As with most broadband phone service and dsl we ask that unless you cancel within the first thirty days.. stick with it for one year to avoid the cancellation charge. See the agreement.
Well, what about the Activation Fee? Can I get that back too? No. If you cancel within the first month. You won't have to pay for that monthly charge and if you pre-paid for that month, we'll refund it. But, we can't refund any part of Activation Charge once we begin working on your order in our system.
Why is the service so inexpensive? Three reasons: First, we use the Internet to get the calls from your home to us instead of expensive dedicated phone lines. Second, we send our billing through email and collect payment through automatic payments; avoiding costly postage. Third, most of the taxes and surcharges do not apply to BroadBand Phone Service. The result is quite a bit of savings for you.
Is this price for a limited time only? There are no plans to change our prices at all.
Are we offering this service outside the 412 & 724 areas? Right now it is only available in 412&724. We plan to roll out in 26 markets soon.
Features
Would I still activate my existing features the same way ie: Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, etc? Yes. Keep in mind that PittsburghVoice comes with more features than traditional phone service. Please check out our features section for more of those details.
Billing
Is auto pay required? Yes, all accounts must be on auto pay to have the service.
What taxes / surcharges are added? State sales tax as well as a $0.99 Regulatory Fee and a $0.99 E911 fee. That’s it!
Annual Plan
Are the annual plans set on Auto pay as well? Yes. Your credit card or checking account will be charged once a year for the service. If any Directory Assistance calls or International calls are made they will be charged monthly.
Are the taxes and everything charged up front on the annual plan? Yes, everything except usage sensitive stuff like directory assistance and international
If I decided I no longer want the service sometime after the first month and I have the annual plan will I get money back? No. There are no refunds after the first month once the money back guarantee is over. Please remember that the annual plan is extremely inexpensive! But, let’s say you change your service to another company 7 months from now because your Sister’s Husband’s brother works at some other company in Jersey and you want to give them a try… you can change. But, if you have the Annual Plan there is no pro-rated refund.
Fax Box / Fax Line Questions
Does the $4.99 fax box need equipment? No, the optional fax boxes have their own phone #’s. An image of your incoming fax will go to an email address of your choice.
Could a customer have two lines and a fax box? Yes. Customer could have two lines and 50 fax boxes if you want. The fax box functionality is on the network and does not require a separate line or customer equipment.
Can I port my existing identa ring number into PittsburghVoice as a Second Line or fax box? Sure.
Total Home Hook Up
How long will my install take? Installations vary depending on the conditions we find in your home. On average it takes our guys about fifty-five minutes to install Broadband Phone service over an existing Internet connection and about ninety minutes to install both High Speed Internet and Broadband Phone Service. In some extreme cases installations may take several hours or require return visits.
Am I charged for the time the Technician is here? No, assuming your house was already wired for regular phone service.
Can I get the Free Total Home Hook Up for the lines I use for my business? No. Businesses are quoted separately. Please call us.
Can I have your technician do some extra wiring work while he is here? Yes, but within reason. Examples would include: repairing a bad jack or replacing a line cord on an old phone. In cases like these normal material charges apply for any jacks or cables etc that the technician uses. Example of what we could not do on the initial visit: Rewire the entire third floor that has not worked for many years. We would be happy to quote extensive inside wirework for you. We just ask that you call us in advance to obtain such a quote on anything major that you need done.
